Affection
(Acrylics: 24x36)
Affection

For some reason, I started to think about affection, about loving someone. This painting is my mind's eye view of affection, as I have personally experienced it, and its many colors, its many faces. Affection, in my mind, has many faces such as being in lust, in love, in like, love-hate, brotherly love, strong love of friendship, family love and etc. Our first unique experience, outside the family unit, is our first episode of puppy love. As far as I know, puppy love is our first meaningful experience with affection. After the puppy love plays out, the emotion of affection continues to manifest itself in many different ways throughout our life span as we gain more experience with the magic of affection. There is no set sequence, or order, and affection can change from one to another such as being in love evolves into a love-hate relationship for any number of reasons. We can be all over the board with affection. Our affection for someone constantly changes from one to another and back. Affection can be and often is fluid, ever changing, never remaining constant in one face, one category. Puppy love is the only one that seems to never repeat and as our first experience with affection it is the one we never forget. Affection is both magical and mysterious.
