Pain
(Mixed Medium:24x30)
Pain

In March of 2011, I sustained a physical and painful injury. As I dealt with the pain, I began to reflect on pain I had experienced as far back as I could remember. The memory of pain due to 2nd and 3rd degree burns in early childhood erupted and that pain led me to start this painting. I captured the colors of my various pains that have been significant in my life span to date. The memory of the childhood burns is depicted in the center of this painting. As I relived other memories of pain, it seemed to me that there was a beginning of pain but no end. Pain is an inherent part of who I am and cannot detach myself from it. We are intertwined for life.
