Beyond Reach

This dream resulted from my remembering when I was homeless, no home, no place to sleep.

I wake up. It's still dark out. I feel warm and comfortable in bed. But the need to fly away is strong so I get up, open the slider and fly high up into the night sky. I love to fly. I notice there is not a single star out. I climb in steep flight searching for the stars but I can't find any. Soon I begin to tire and fear I will fall from the sky. I decide to return to the house. When I get to where the house should be, I only find an empty lot. I 'm cold, tired, and confused. I fly up high to see what I can see hoping to locate the house. Off in the distance, I see my bed. I wonder is it flying or just floating away. I fly toward the bed but it eludes me as if it has a mind of its own. No matter how hard I try it remains just beyond my reach as if it is deliberately turning away from me, leaving me behind. Try as I may, I cannot overtake it. I know it is leaving me but I don't know why.

I wake up.
